Want to buy a W163 Mercedes-Benz ML 400 CDI? Pay attention to the gearbox. That V8 diesel had enough torque to rip the not-really-weak 5G-Tronic to shreds as quickly as in 10 000 - 20 000 miles if not driven carefully. If you suspect it could have been driven by an aggressive tosspot who'd often launch it in full throttle, walk away.

I guess that'd make sense. I don't know too much about Touareg problems, but since that V10 had much more than Merc's V8, it's likely that gearbox failures are common.
